A Message From Us

We're getting married… again

We actually cheated and got married in Denmark, New Year 2023. But we want to do it properly, this time surrounded by our family, close friends, and all the people who matter most to us.

How It All Began

Our Story

We met in December 2021, both living and working in Dubai. From the , we kind of knew something was special.

Then Caryn managed to catch COVID and pass it on to Lars by the . Lars convinced her to spend the ten-day isolation together, so our turned into a ten-day living-together experiment. By the end of it, we were sure.

So while Dubai isn't exactly famous for love, maybe it's the new Paris? 💕

In the four years since, we've been to nearly 20 countries together. France, Greece, Denmark, Azerbaijan, Tanzania, the US, South Africa, and so many more. Things shifted when we decided to start a family and leave Dubai. We moved to Portugal in January 2024 and welcomed Lucas on the 25th of June 2025. He's already been to 13 countries and counting — clearly a chip off the old block.

One New Year's, a friend of ours — someone who's been around long enough to know what lasting love looks like — watched us across the room all night. The way we moved together, the way we'd catch each other's eye mid-conversation with other guests, the quiet little smiles. At the end of the night, he turned to us and said:

“It doesn't get better than this.”

Where We'll Celebrate

The Venue

Marriott Praia D'El Rey is a resort on the cliffs above the Atlantic, near the medieval town of Óbidos on Portugal's Silver Coast, an hour north of Lisbon. Ocean views, gardens, and a lot of space for a good party.

The ceremony will be in the gardens with the ocean behind us, cocktails on the covered terrace, and dinner under cover. The open terrace is right there whenever you want sea air and a view of the water.

The Day

Times are approximate and may shift as we finalise things

Arrival & Check-in

If you're staying at the resort, this is a good time to check in and settle. No formal programme yet, just get there, find your room, and relax.

The Ceremony

Refreshments in the garden before the ceremony begins. Then the main event: vows in the gardens with the Atlantic as the backdrop.

Cocktail Hour

Drinks, snacks, and catching up. Portuguese wines, cocktails, and canapés while the sun goes down.

Dinner

Dinner on the covered terrace with views over the sea. Portuguese food, good wine, speeches, and games from guests.

The Program

Speeches, Danish traditional games, and whatever else we manage to pull together. Participation is expected.

Cake & First Dance

We cut the cake, do the first dance, and kick off the party.

Party

Dance floor opens. Good music, good company, warm Portuguese evening. Go until you can't.

Got a song that will get you on the dance floor? Send us your requests and we'll make sure the DJ has them ready.

Last Dance

Venue closes at 2 AM. Your bed is a short walk away. No taxis needed.

What to Wear

Dress Code

None of this is a rule — it's just a direction. We're not going for black-tie formal. Think summer elegance, warm tones, and something you'll actually enjoy wearing on a warm July evening in Portugal.

For the ladies, something along the lines of a midi or long dress in soft neutrals, blush, champagne, or sandy tones works beautifully. Flowy fabrics and satin feel right for the setting.

For the men, linen trousers or chinos with a crisp shirt in white, cream, or beige is a lovely starting point. Loafers over formal shoes, light and comfortable.

Most importantly, wear something you feel good in. It's a summer evening by the ocean, so comfort matters just as much as style — and honestly, we care far more that you're there than what you're wearing.

The resort is on Portugal's Silver Coast, about an hour's drive north of Lisbon. Fly into Lisbon Airport (LIS) and drive up along the coast. We'll share directions, transfer options, and recommendations closer to the date.

Stay With Us

Our wedding venue is part of the Marriott Praia D'El Rey resort, and you're welcome to book a room right where the celebration happens. You can reserve directly through the Marriott website. Bookings for July 2027 are expected to open around June 2026.

Just a heads-up, our wedding falls in peak summer season, so hotel rates will be on the higher side. If you'd prefer something more budget-friendly, there are plenty of lovely hotels, guesthouses, and rental apartments in the Óbidos and Peniche area worth exploring.

That said, staying at the resort does make things a lot easier. No worrying about getting back after the party!

One important note: the area doesn't have reliable public transport, so we'd really recommend renting a car. It'll give you the freedom to explore the beautiful coastline and nearby towns too.

Please Bring Your Kids!

Kids are very welcome. We want them there, and we've made sure they're properly looked after so you can actually enjoy the evening.

We're hiring 2 nannies for the evening: one to run a play room with activities and entertainment, and one for a quiet sleeping room where little ones can be put to bed when they're ready. We're getting a dedicated hotel room just for this, so the kids have a proper, comfortable space of their own.

If you're staying at the resort, you can enjoy the party with complete peace of mind. The nannies will be there all evening, and your room is just a short walk away. Drop the kids off, enjoy the night, and pick them up whenever you're ready.

We looked at 30 years of IPMA climate data for the coast. Here's what July 24th looks like historically:

TL;DR: It'll almost certainly be warm and dry. Worst case is some coastal breeze and a bit of haze. We have indoor backup anyway.

The wedding will be in English since Caryn doesn't speak Danish and Lars doesn't speak Bisaya, so it's the one we share. That said, if you want to give a speech in your own language, please do. We'd rather hear what you actually want to say than have you skip it because of a language barrier.

Portugal is very English-friendly, so you'll have no trouble at the resort or in the area.

About 30 minutes from the venue. We live in Salir de Matos, a small village on the Silver Coast. The area has a lot to see and do: beaches, medieval towns, great food. Check out our Travel & Area Guide for the full rundown.

Yes, we'd love that. We're planning to host something at our house before or after the wedding so you can see where we live and hang out properly. We'll sort the details closer to the date.

Fair warning though: we're expecting 60 to 70 guests in total, our road is small, and we can fit maybe four or five cars. So logistics will need a bit of creativity. Taxis, carpooling, something. We'll figure it out. Everyone is welcome, we just need to be a bit organised about it.

Your presence truly is the best gift we could ask for. The fact that you're making the trip all the way to Portugal means the world to us. If you'd still like to give something, we'll share details closer to the date. But please know that having you there to celebrate with us is more than enough.
